Hainbach

Based out of Berlin, Germany, electronic music composer and sound artist Hainbach creates shifting audio landscapes THE WIRE called “One hell of a trip”. He has been fascinated with electronic sounds since he discovered the dial on the radio. Never losing his childhood wonder, he still searches for the sounds in between on uncommon electronic instruments, tape and test equipment, making even the “unmusical musical”.
Through his YouTube channel Hainbach brings experimental music techniques to a wider audience. He is an award winning film composer, and his compositions for ensembles have been featured at Witten, Gaudeamus and Impulsfestival Halle. His music software and hardware is used by musicians world-wide. He tours regularly, and has taught at Humboldt University, Manchester School of Arts, Hybrid Arts Lab Dresden, MRC Copenhagen, among others.

CONCRETE NOIR

is the latest venture by multimedia artist Piero Fragola—best known for his work with We Love (on Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control) and ANGLE (Tiptop Audio Records). From Florence, Italy, he now forges his own sonic sanctuary, built with modular circuitry as its backbone. Every beat and vibration is meticulously hand-crafted on Tiptop Audio’s ART modular system.

About the project

WILLIAM J. STOKES

It’s not often that, at least in the first instance, I’m not entirely sure what all those cables are doing. But such was my reaction upon sitting down with Tiptop Audio’s ART range of Eurorack modules for the first time. It’s a phenomenal breakthrough in modular, and a truly useable one at that. I sincerely look forward to other developers getting on board and expanding this ecosystem.

Milstein and company have done well to keep it self-explanatory with the Polytips: it’s essentially business as usual, just pluralised.
Patch the ART Out from the Octopus or the Quantizer into the ART In on a polyphonic oscillator. Patch the oscillator’s Audio Outs Polytip output into the eight-channel Octogain VCA; then the oscillator’s Gate Outs into the Trigger ins of the ADSR Octostages Poly Envelope. Patch the envelope CV Outs into the VCA CV Ins. Presto! Polyphony! Too good to be true? Tiptop are onto something exciting here.

DR. THEO

During May 2023 I was visiting Superbooth in Berlin. On the first day relatively early in the day my ears caught sounds that were exactly what I was looking for.

Those sounds came from a modular rig by Tiptop Audio, so I started talking , that was my first encounter with the ART system. It was explained in full detail, however when I need to explain the technology to some one else, I have to look it up. The words that got stuck in my brain were: polyphony, analog, easy to tune…

End of June 2023 the first modules arrived and I started playing with them immediately; the package included the Octopus, Vortex 6, Octopass Poly Filter, Octostages Envelope, Octogain, Vortex, 2x ATX1 and 2 control path modules.
The build quality is excellent, and I need to mention the Polytip cables, 1 cable instead of the usual spaghetti.

With this I was able to build an ART section inside my Modular System.

Most of the music that I publish on Youtube and Bandcamp is made with the ever expanding ART system, since the oscillators sound so great and are easy to tune: ATX1, Vortex, Vortex 6, and Triax 8.

I am grateful that Tiptop Audio gave me the chance to become an early user of the ART technology when I asked for it.

GIACOMO VANELLI

When Piero told me about the Art system and its potential for polyphony some time ago, I realized the revolutionary impact such a system could have on the Eurorack world. Gradually, I delved into the world of the Octopus module, and I must admit that now, with the new polyphonic modules, my case for live sets is complete and unchangeable.

LUCA MINELLI

Like many others, I started by building my first modular system, which I eventually sold entirely because I couldn’t manage it the way I wanted.
With Tiptop and their ART system, I finally found everything I needed: polyphony, automation, the ability to structure entire tracks on a DAW or sequencer, and the consistency of having them sound exactly the same the next day. For someone like me, who loves structured, melodic tracks fully controlled by my vision, ART is the ultimate system.

LUCA LONGOBARDI (on Instagram)

I was reflecting this morning on how the new Tiptop Audio ART messaging system is truly a revolution for my workflow. When it comes to polyphony and tracking, even working with just two sequences with regular oscillators is enough to understand how frustrating it can be to integrate them into a context with other instruments. Apart from the Serge, which I consider a separate system, I think I won’t be buying any more VCOs that don’t have this system.

RODOLFO MONGITORE

Tip Top is one of the few companies in the modular synth manufacturing scene that likes to invest in truly innovative designs. The Art line series is a perfect example of this attitude: a module like Octopus is able to take daw integration to a new level, with never-before-seen simplification of wiring.

GIORGIO FERRERO

The Art System has been a remarkable discovery. At its heart, the Octopus module has become my go-to interface with the DAW.

The Vortex 6 is a truly captivating and versatile wave generator. It shines whether used as a system of independent oscillators or as a rich sound polyphonic source routed through other Art modules. Its flexibility makes it an indispensable component of the setup.

The Poly Envelope module is impressively precise and crystal-clear in its behavior. The CV input for modulation adds a delightful touch of controlled unpredictability to an otherwise meticulously accurate sound, bringing creative possibilities to the forefront.

Power efficiency and politip cables are a stunning way to close the circle.
